MESSY CHURCH
In addition to worship in the church, we have “Messy Church” worship in the Glebe Street Hall, which runs once a month on Sunday afternoons.
Messy church is a gathering designed especially for families, children, and people who might not usually attend traditional church services.
Messy church is a time when we can explore faith through fun, creative activities. It combines crafts, games, storytelling, and fun. The focus is on hospitality, creativity, and celebration, and there is always an abundance of home-baked goods to enjoy.
It is called “messy” because it embraces the noise, energy, and unpredictability that come with children, crafts and shared food. It is designed for families to come together, so we ask that an adult accompany children.

EASTER HOLY WEEK
In preparation for Easter, we have services on Thursday and Friday (Good Friday) of Holy Week. Thursday is a communion service, and Friday is a more reflective service where we remember Jesus's death on the cross. Easter Sunday is a big celebration service with involvement from the children and is often quite a noisy service as we celebrate Jesus's resurrection.

ADVENT SERVICES
Advent is a special season of waiting and preparation as we look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Spanning the four Sundays before Christmas, it invites us to pause and reflect on the hope, peace, joy, and love that Christ brings.
We gather for worship each week with scripture, prayer, and much-loved hymns and carols, often with families and children helping to lead. A key tradition is the Advent wreath, placed at the front of the church. A new candle is lit each Sunday, and on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, the Christ candle shines brightly, symbolising the arrival of Jesus, the Light of the World.
On one of the Sundays, the Coalburn Silver Band visits and leads us in singing; on another, our church choir performs a selection of songs and readings. On the final Sunday, our service centres on the nativity, with children taking part as we share together the story of Christ’s birth.

CHRISTINGLE SERVICE
On Christmas Eve, we have a family-friendly Christingle Service, where children and adults alike make Christingles from oranges and reflect on what Christ's coming into the world means to them. The word “Christingle” comes from the German word meaning “Christ-light.” The service centres around the Christingle symbol, a decorated orange.
Each part of the Christingle symbol has a Christian meaning:
The orange represents the world, the red ribbon (wrapped around the orange) is symbolic of the love of God and the blood of Christ.
The four cocktail sticks with sweets or dried fruit represent the four seasons and the fruits of God's creation.
The candle on top symbolises Jesus as the light of the world.
The service usually includes carol singing, prayers, and a short talk explaining the meaning of the Christingle. During the service, the lights are dimmed, and the candles are lit, creating a beautiful moment of shared light in the church.
It is a way to celebrate Jesus' coming at Christmas and make the Christian message accessible to children through something visual and symbolic.

CHRISTMAS DAY SERVICE
Our Christmas Day Morning Service is a special service that marks the culmination of Advent and the joyful celebration of Christ's birth. It is a wonderful opportunity for our church family and community to come together and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. The service is a relaxed gathering, and everyone is encouraged to bring any presents they might have received—the noisier, the better!

BAPTISMAL SERVICE
Baptism is one of the two sacraments recognised by the Church of Scotland, the other being the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
It is always a delight when parents bring their children for baptism. In the case of adult baptism, the person himself or herself makes the appropriate promises, and we welcome them at any time of the year.
The baptism takes place at the beginning of the service, so everyone is encouraged to stay for that. Then the children leave for Sunday school, and all visiting children are welcome to join them.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY SERVICE
After the commemorative service at the East Kilbride cenotaph, many attendees, including members of the British Legion and uniformed organisations, make their way to the church for the remembrance service. To accommodate this, the service usually starts around 11:30 am.
The Remembrance Sunday service follows the typical pattern of Sunday services with some appropriate additions. These additions include placing standards (flags) in the church and observing a remembrance silence. At the close of this service, the National Anthem is sung.
